Ingredients:

*You need a thermometer- a candy thermometer is best

*Cheese cloth or mesh strainer to separate final product

  • 7 grams cannabis inflorescence (flower), broken up but NOT ground fine

  • 2 cups unsalted butter

  • 2 cups of water

Directions:

1.       Weight desired amount of cannabis. Refer to the chart below to determine how much you should use for your desired outcome.

2.       Break cannabis up roughly, remove any large stems or seeds that may be present.

3.       Add 2 cups of butter for every 2 cups of water into a pot and heat over medium low heat.

4.       Add cannabis to butter and water once temperature reaches about 210 degrees F.

5.       Your target zone for decarboxylation, in which the cannabinoid THCa will convert to THC fully without converting too far into CBN (which is more sedative) is 220-degree F for 90 minutes. Try to maintain between 210-220 degrees for the entire 90 minutes to ensure you do note over or under process.

6.       Once, you have processed for the full 90 minutes, carefully strain butter (ghee) through mesh strainer or cheese cloth to separate plant matter from fat. Use back of spoon to help squeeze the remaining butter from the plant matter. *You can save the used cannabis in a bag in the freezer for later use if you would like. It is less potent, of course.

7.       You can now place butter into the fridge to solidify.

8.       After butter solidifies, separate it from any water and clean it up with the back of a knife, scraping the “bottom” lightly to remove any excess moisture of debris.

9.       Remelt in bane marie (double boiler) if you want to portion for long term storage. Remember that due to the plant matter constituents now within the butter (ghee), it can go rancid much faster without proper storage. I suggest ½ cup portions, wrapped in parchment and frozen.
